Jamestown, or "jimson" weed (Datura stramonium)

Also called thorn apple or Devil's apple, jimsonweed is one of the most common weeds found in North American fields. The fang-leaved scourge of corn farmers everywhere, it was used as a painkiller and anti-spasmodic. Confederate pharmacists prepared a tincture of the plant's essential oil diluted with alcohol, which was either consumed as a drink or applied directly to wounds. The plant contains atropine-like alkaloids that would be considered, by today's standards, highly toxic.
